The Importance of a Sign… John is using “sign” in reference to Jesus doing what can only be done by God. • "sēmeion”: Focus on Significance of Event Used 17 times in the Gospel of John • "dynamis”: Focus on Miracle Itself • Jesus Came to Rescue Us • The Core Message: • New Life is a Necessity • New Life is Indispensable • God’s Love is Demonstratable • Believe in Jesus for New Life . New Life is Indispensable “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” “…so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” • The Problem: sin is death to mind, body and spirit. • The Solution: Jesus is death to sin, new life to believers. • The Grace: Jesus is given to us before we believe. • II. God’s Love is Demonstrable • “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. • “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son • Condemnation: a condition, not an accusation • God’s Love: His condition demonstrated through Jesus • III. Applications • Believe in Jesus for New Life • Turn to Jesus for the miracle of being made new • Turn away from using Jesus as improvement of the same life • Live this week out as a born-again believer, asking Jesus to shine His light on what needs to become new.

John 1:29-31 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.” Jesus is in the Middle of Life The Core Message: Turn to Jesus With Faith and Understanding John 2:1-5 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” 4 “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” 11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. 12 After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. Logos? The Greek word "logos" translates to "word," "speech," or "reason," and it encompasses a range of meanings including divine reason or the mind of God in philosophical contexts. It is notably used in religious texts, particularly in Christianity, to refer to the Word of God as expressed in the Bible. Paul week 1 Who was Paul? • Born in Tarsus, a major city in Cilicia (modern-day Turkey). • Held dual heritage as a Jewish person of the tribe of Benjamin and a Roman citizen. • Trained as a Pharisee and supported himself financially by working as a tentmaker. • He was there at the death of Stephen, the first martyr. • Paul persecuted Christians. • The reason he was on the Road to Damacus was to persecute the Christians in that area. • After his conversion, the Apostle Paul traveled roughly 10,000 miles by land and sea across the Roman Empire until his death in Rome around AD 67. • The areas included the Middle East, Asia Minor, Southern Europe, and the Mediterranean. The New Testament has 13 letters or epistles that are attributed to Paul. In Romans 12:3–8, the Apostle Paul teaches humility and unity 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
